Document Types

Document Types are the foundation of how DocView Web organises your files. Every document you upload or import is assigned to a document type, which determines its metadata fields, access permissions, and processing workflow.

Understanding the Type Hierarchy

Document types are arranged in a hierarchical tree (powered by jsTree). A top-level type might represent a broad category such as Finance or HR, with sub-types underneath like Invoices, Receipts, or Contracts. This structure makes it easy to browse and filter large document collections.

Browsing Document Types

  1. Click Document Type in the left sidebar (or use the tree-toggle button in the top navigation bar to open the document tree panel).
  2. The main content area shows all top-level document types as cards. Each card displays the type name and the number of documents it contains.
  3. Click a card (or a tree node) to see the document list filtered to that type.

Custom Filters

Each document type can have one or more saved filters configured by an administrator. When filters exist, they appear as clickable links below the document-type card. Clicking a filter opens the document list pre-filtered to that criteria – for example, showing only invoices from the current month or only documents with a specific status.

Document List View

When you select a document type, the main area shows a paginated, sortable data table with columns such as:

  • Document name / reference number
  • Custom metadata fields defined for that type
  • Upload date and last-modified date
  • Current status (e.g. Active, Archived, In Workflow)

Use the column headers to sort, or the search box above the table to filter by keyword. You can also apply advanced filters using the filter panel if configured.

Working with Documents

From the document list you can:

• Click a row to open the document record (metadata, viewer, history, sharing options).
  • Upload a new document to this type using the Upload button.
  • Bulk select multiple documents for batch operations (if enabled by your administrator).

INFO

The document types and fields you see depend on your role and group membership. Administrators configure type visibility in the Doc Type Setup page.
